Whilst planning our flight from Moscow to Kyiv we saw that all flights passed through Minsk in Belarus. So we decided that a few nights in Minsk would be interesting, so after checking the visa situation (visa not required for NZ passports), we booked Moscow to Minsk, accommodation in Minsk and flights Minsk to Kiev.
All went well until we tried to board the flight and were told that was not going to happen
There is one exception to visa not required for NZ passport holders and that is if your flight originates in Russia then tough you need a visa.
We and one other person were caught up in this so had the joy of getting exit stamps cancelled and picking up bags. Annoying but getting upset and vocal about wasn't going to solve anything. Well that was out attitude unfortunately the third person was very vocal in her opinions (i.e. Saying a few uncomplimentary things about Russia in a loud voice) so we parted ways with her as quickly as possible.
Getting to Kyiv involved a 50km Uber ride to another airport, accommodation in the airport hotel and flying out the next day on a freshly booked flight. Then spending about 6 hours in the Minsk airport. Very strange as when we arrived there was no border control.
No photos as it was grey and raining and we were tired and grumpy.
Oh well live and learn.
